GRAMMAR:
PASSIVE VOICETo change from active to passive voice you must give more importance to what the subject is doing than to the subject. This means that the VERB or ACTION is the most important part of the sentence.
Example:
ACTIVE VOICE: Susan waters the plants every day (the subject "Susan" gets more importance than what shw's doing.)
ACTIVE VOICE: The plants are watered by Susan every day. (The new subject is "The plants" and what is happening to them, "are watered". Now it's more important what happens to the plants than who is doing the action).
We use PASSIVE VOICE to describe events from the present, past or future.
To write in passive voice, follow the formula:
ACTIVE: SUBJECT + VERB IN PRESENT, PAST OR FUTURE + PREDICATE COMPLEMENT.
PASSIVE: NEW SUBJECT + VERB TO BE IN PRESENT, PAST, FUTURE + VERB IN PAST PARTICIPLE + PREDICATE COMPLEMENT.
EXAMPLES:
THE STUDENTS WRITE THEIR JOURNALS EVERY WEEK. (In present)
Passive: The journals are written by the students every week.
JOHN RAN THE 52 KILOMETERS RACE YESTERDAY.(In past tense)
Passive: The 52 kilometers race was run by John yesterday.
